Characterised by elongated noses and tiny, punched eyes and mouths, Marc Bourlier’s expressive figures collect in a perpetual state of curiosity and shock. The artist scours the seashores close to his house in Normandy for driftwood, gathering an unbelievable number of configurations and dimensions to take again to the studio. He enhances the weathered grain with rigorously whittled heads and lengthy, limbless our bodies, packing the people tightly collectively on platforms or organizing them into compartments.

The nuances of coloration play a job in Bourlier’s work, as he explores the connection between naturally occurring tones and refined background hues. Lately, the artist has composed tree motifs grounded by heat, brown surfaces crammed edge-to-edge with drawn linear patterns and a whole bunch of faces. Figures stand across the trunks and stability within the boughs, captured in an enigmatic narrative.
