A Prayer for Endurance within the Mundane
By Emily Rose Massey

“No matter you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and never for males, understanding that from the Lord you’ll obtain the inheritance as your reward. You’re serving the Lord Christ.” – Colossians 3:23-24 ESV

Lately, my husband had a tough couple of days, inflicting intense arguments which impacted our relationship. Peeling again layers of discontentment and aggravation, we realized my husband’s comparatively new (3-year) distant/work-from-home place was affecting different relationships and duties. He left time to decompress, course of, or disconnect from work life, negatively impacting his outlook on life normally. He felt lonely, caught, unchallenged, and unmotivated. Discontentment was breeding resentfulness and bitterness, inflicting him to view different areas of life with a adverse and fatalistic lens. As an alternative of giving into despair, we remembered what God’s Phrase says and utilized it to our scenario for renewed hope and perspective. In Colossians chapter 3, the Apostle Paul inspired the church at Colossae to recollect who they had been residing for:

“No matter you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and never for males, understanding that from the Lord you’ll obtain the inheritance as your reward. You’re serving the Lord Christ” (Colossians 3:23-24, ESV).

Paul did not say, “Work heartily until it is boring or uncomfortable. Then speak about how a lot you do not like what you might be doing and quit.” No! Paul reminded the believers to make use of the talents and skills given to them by the Lord in thrilling and mundane conditions to glorify God, to not obtain reward from males. Temptation comes when life will get boring, or we’re by no means acknowledged or praised (or thanked) by others for our work or accomplishments. In our delight, we need to complain or develop embittered, which impacts how we view the world.

As God’s youngsters, we aren’t to grouse. We should keep in mind that, in the end, grumbling is complaining towards the sovereign God of the universe and saying He is not good, which is sinful. After we complain, we should always repent, reset our minds by eager about issues above, rejoice, and thank God for His graciousness in direction of us. New mercies can be found to us each morning, and new grace for every job forward of us. Maybe it will be helpful to create a every day checklist of issues you might be grateful for to assist domesticate a coronary heart of contentment and gratitude. Regardless of hardships and inconveniences, we’re known as to rejoice and discover pleasure in Christ. All of it comes all the way down to the angle and posture of our hearts. The Holy Spirit can empower us to stay a life stuffed with contentment irrespective of our circumstances, whether or not thrilling and thrilling or boring and boring. We should bear in mind who we live for- the Lord, Almighty, the One who gave us the present of life on earth and eternally in Christ Jesus.

Let’s pray:
Heavenly Father,

I repent for grumbling and complaining when tired of life’s monotony and mundane conditions. Please assist me to see every day as a present. Train me to quantity my days and never take the breath in my lungs as a right. I have to admit that I can develop weary on the every day duties earlier than me, and the shortage of pleasure in these small, easy actions may cause me to stroll in discontentment, laziness, and pessimism. I want Your grace to strengthen me to run the race set earlier than me so I can end nicely, for Your identify’s sake. It doesn’t matter what You’ve gotten known as me to do right here on this earth, I need to do it for You and never the reward of males. I need to use my time correctly and provides You all of the glory in every part I say and do. I need to work heartily and joyfully for You all the times of my life. Thank You that You’ve gotten given me Your Spirit to convict me once I complain or when I’m ungrateful for this blessed life You’ve gotten given me right here and now and the life to come back the place I’ll get to spend eternity with You. I lengthy to serve You with each fiber of my being! In Jesus’ identify, Amen.
