In 2016, when collectors Dr. Elaine Melotti Schmidt and Steven Bennett first conceptualized The Bennett Prize for Girls Figurative Realist Painters — a $50,000 juried prize awarded to a promising lady painter — they found that no person was desirous about one other artwork prize.
“After we launched the idea to museums and curators,” says Schmidt, who based the Prize with Bennett in 2019, “the response was yawning indifference. Working alongside this exhibition is The Classes I Go away You, a solo present by Ayana Ross of Georgia, who gained the 2021 Bennett Prize. Ross says her present “will depict the divine in on a regular basis moments.” Each exhibitions will journey the nation, visiting New York, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee
Schmidt says the present prize present “ranges from arduous realism to smooth impressionism.” Juror-artist Zoey Frank provides, “It’s thrilling to see the artists on this present working on the boundaries of what illustration will be…” Echoing this level, juror Joseph Rosa observes that “the huge vary of aesthetics on this work is unbelievable.”
Among the many founders’ objectives is a want to advertise the work of all of the finalists and to generate curiosity in figurative artwork amongst collectors, galleries, and museums. Consequently, the earlier 18 finalists and two winners have seen demand for his or her work improve considerably, and their sale costs have grown by almost half. These girls have exhibited in 24 solo reveals and 67 group reveals. Their work has been revealed in over 50 characteristic articles and over half have gained gallery illustration.
“We’ve had a front-row seat on the popping out get together for a complete new group of girls painters,” says Bennett gleefully.
