From his workshop in Villa Elisa, Argentina, Luciano Polverigiani (beforehand) creates small and medium format ceramics that teeter between conventional sculpture and toys. At the moment fascinated by the connection between kind and performance, the artist typically displays on how his supplies are inextricably linked to every piece’s use. “We typically affiliate ceramic materials with fragility; ceramic objects break in the event that they fall on the bottom or are dealt with roughly,” he tells Colossal. “I’m keen on reflecting on the ‘use’ that we’ll give to ceramics. On this sense, I start to work with the concept of a ceramic toy.”

The artist brings the contradictory concept of the ceramic toy to life by a curious menagerie of creatures, every radiating with character. And whereas many toys function some form of moveable facet or configurable elements, Polverigiani embraces the incongruity between clay’s rigidity and the inherent motion of play. By incorporating wheels and creating small figures that should match inside others, the artist pushes the boundaries between ceramic sculpture and motion.

Up to now few years, Polverigiani has cultivated relationships with different ceramicists throughout his travels, and he’s at the moment engaged on organizing a collective exhibition. You may comply with him on Instagram for updates, and discover extra work on Behance.
