In 2021, photographer and author, Johny Pitts, and poet Roger Robinson traveled across the British coast looking for a solution to the query ‘What’s Black Britain?’ Their collaboration turned House is Not a Place—which opened at The Photographers’ Gallery this June.
Touring in a purple Mini Cooper, Pitts, and Robinson’s circumnavigation encompassed the coastal, city, rural, and suburban, through the locations in between. Following the coast clockwise, collectively they got down to doc and reply to the numerous manifestations of Black British tradition, and to current an alternative choice to official and media narratives.
