Oh, to be a flower allergic to pollen! In Abi Castillo’s playful ceramics, flowers sprout from the tops of expressive heads, blossoms sniffle, and vases cope with their contents—and the bees they entice. The Galicia, Spain-based artist creates characters that mirror her personal experiences and feelings, turning into what she describes as alter-egos into which she will pour all of her emotions. She describes a “want to provide life to things, at all times searching for eyes to have a look at. That’s why faces are essential.”
within the relationships between mysticism, drama, magnificence, and the grotesque, Castillo imbues a rising solid of personalities with natural qualities, from coral to sprouting cheeks. She focuses on faces as a approach to categorical humor or irony, and begins by making sketches that illustrate the ultimate meeting. “The ceramic work is a sluggish course of, the place it’s the clay that marks the drying instances and the place endurance is essential,” she says. “The method can final from a number of weeks to a number of months.”
