Joyce J. Scott: Stroll a Mile in My Desires was developed in shut dialogue with the Baltimore-based artist and her collaborators to disclose the total breadth of Joyce’s singular imaginative and prescient by greater than 120 objects from private and non-private collections throughout america. The exhibition will embody important examples of the artist’s sculpture—each stand-alone and wearable items—alongside efficiency footage, clothes, prints, and supplies from Joyce’s private archive.

Joyce J. Scott: Stroll a Mile in My Desires will likely be offered in Baltimore as a particular ticketed exhibition from March 24, by July 14, 2024, and in Seattle from October 17, 2024, by January 20, 2025. It’s co-curated by Cecilia Wichmann, BMA Affiliate Curator of Modern Artwork, and Catharina Manchanda, SAM Jon and Mary Shirley Curator of Fashionable and Modern Artwork, with assist from Leslie Rose, Joyce J. Scott Curatorial Analysis Assistant.

Joyce J. Scott (b. 1948, Baltimore, MD) and her work have been the topic of quite a few exhibitions, books, and articles. She has acquired commissions, grants, awards, residencies, and honors from the Nationwide Endowment for the Arts, Louis Consolation Tiffany Basis, Nameless Was a Lady, American Craft Council, Nationwide Dwelling Treasure Award, Lifetime Achievement Award from the Girls’s Caucus for the Arts, Mary Sawyers Imboden Baker Award, MacArthur Basis Fellowship (2016), Smithsonian Visionary Artist Award, Nationwide Academy of Design Induction, and Moore School Visionary Lady Award, amongst others. Joyce earned her Bachelor of Superb Arts from the Maryland Institute School of Artwork, and a Grasp of Superb Arts from the Instituto Allende in Mexico. In 2018, she was awarded an honorary fellowship from NYU, in addition to honorary doctorates from each MICA and the California School of the Arts. In 2022, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from Johns Hopkins College.
