The Baltimore Museum of Artwork (BMA) and Seattle Artwork Museum (SAM) have co-organized the 50-year profession retrospective of artist Joyce J. Scott, some of the important artists of our time. Joyce J. Joyce J. Scott (b. 1948, Baltimore, MD) and her work have been the topic of quite a few exhibitions, books, and articles. She has acquired commissions, grants, awards, residencies, and honors from the Nationwide Endowment for the Arts, Louis Consolation Tiffany Basis, Nameless Was a Lady, American Craft Council, Nationwide Dwelling Treasure Award, Lifetime Achievement Award from the Girls’s Caucus for the Arts, Mary Sawyers Imboden Baker Award, MacArthur Basis Fellowship (2016), Smithsonian Visionary Artist Award, Nationwide Academy of Design Induction, and Moore School Visionary Lady Award, amongst others. Joyce earned her Bachelor of Superb Arts from the Maryland Institute School of Artwork, and a Grasp of Superb Arts from the Instituto Allende in Mexico. In 2018, she was awarded an honorary fellowship from NYU, in addition to honorary doctorates from each MICA and the California School of the Arts. In 2022, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from Johns Hopkins College.
