Syrian-German filmmaker and animator Waref Abu Quba takes viewers on a fast-paced tour by way of the ornate artwork and structure of Istanbul in his quick movie “Takrar.” Comprised of 270 photographs culled from about 2,900 pictures, the stop-motion animation zeros in on the frilly motifs and impeccable craftsmanship noticed all through the Turkish capital. “Once I first visited Istanbul in 2021, I used to be captivated by its timeless magnificence and determined to seize it by way of my lens,” Quba says. “Creating every body of this movie was an utter pleasure, and each new scene introduced sudden and exquisite surprises.”
Two years within the making, “Takrar” spotlights the mélange of Islamic, Ottoman, Greek, and Byzantine influences all through town. The movie is ready to an upbeat percussive monitor performed by Robbe Kieckens on the route of Alex Story that seems to make historic statues, ornamental patterns, and architectural buildings dance to the beat in a hanging celebration of artwork and design, previous and current.
