Metropolis dwellers know that comfort shops have a tradition unto themselves, and though franchises proceed to dominate and overtake companies, small, independently run retailers have simple appeal. For the previous a number of years, artist Lee Me Kyeoung (beforehand) has been including to her ongoing sequence of work that remember the idiosyncrasies and enchantment of tiny South Korean nook shops, that are more and more going through closure.

On view all through July at Gallery Imazoo in Gangnam, Me Kyeoung’s newest works are an ode to those disappearing locales. Enveloped by lush cherry blossoms or persimmon timber, the retailers are well-stocked with dense cabinets, crates of products, and commercials pasted within the home windows. Bicycles, benches, and the occasional folding chair stand outdoors the entrances. Delicately rendered in pen and acrylic, the work depict architectural and organizational variances that make every spot distinctive, whereas honoring the cultural ubiquities of those areas.

Me Kyeoung has a sturdy archive of the quaint retailers, which you could find on Instagram.
